IBEW communication about NCR union

NCR No Comments »

My notes: I did not write the information below.  I am just sharing the information as I find it and making it public and searchable. I am not on either side of this debate. I was asked to post this information so I am doing so to make the information free.

Territory manager in the North East said…
Good morning all. In my own opinion, It would be in your best business to get the union onboard or at least voted in before the boys in NYC go to the table. The company has an agenda, and that agenda is to jam the new paycuts down their throats. They are paying big money to the union busting lawyers, they have us managers ready to go, and most RTSSs on board. The ones that are on board seem to have a lot of concerns about crossing the picket lines if there is a strike. No one want to leave home for any length of time. There also fear for their well being.

If you want to prevent a massacre, you guys must sign up now and show the company that they have more than NYC to worry about and they might back down.

I get this feeling that the company is using this as a tactic to lower the pay across the board and then they won’t care if a union is voated in. They would rather have a starting pay that is 400 buck a week lower and have the next regime negotiate up from there. It will show the share holders a larger profit and Bill should get a large going away package when his time is up. Then leave the union to someone else. I call it the Cheadle twist. Look what happened in Australia. Hit was a hit and run.

I am writing you because in my heart, I feel for you. This could have been me few years ago. That is when I became a Manager. I was in rework in NJ, Then they closed up shop. I became an FE servicing ATMs and proof. Then I was a group leader in a union office and moved out to another office doing some proof, atms and cisco. Now I am a TM and I must say I hate it but I have no other options.

I don’t know what else to tell you people. Its going to be real tough. The company does not tell us much, but what they do say is they have it all figured out. Typical of this company.

I am not sure if things will work out if the rest of the company does not have a vote in place. But in my heart i do feel that if one or two offices has a successful vote then it will be a lot easier to tame this company. What I will tell you is , out FOD and AFOD are very concerned about getting the work done if there is a strike. They feel that the TEAMSTER will not sit back and allow this latest round of insult hurt their members. I have heard that they have gone to Dayton and pleaded for this not to happened.

The rest of the country must stand together and help the cause. Do it before it too late. The New Yorkers will do their part and the rest of you must do you part. It can’t hurt you. Remember, I was in the union and Let me tell you that it breaks my heart to do what I do day in and day out and it would not happen if my crew were in the union.

In this day and age, you guys need protection from corporate America. I can’t understand how the think they can get away with this. You must push back. This, In my own opinion, is the start of a workers revolution. People can not sit back and allow big companies do this. It will be the cause of the next great depression.

I am going to step off my soapbox now. You people have the perfect opportunity to do something right for yourselves. The union was good for this company in NYC for so long and now its no good? Bullshit. The union always worked with the company. As a matter of fact, the company always paid the non union offices better for the longest time, but the union stood strong. It wasnt alway about the money. It was about the whole picture. And now look who is suffering. And The company will try and force this crap on NYC. If you all stand strand, and what I mean about that is, Join the union, the company will have to stand down. They can not conduct business with everyone on strike!

I feel for all of you. I was on the other side myself. I wish you all the luck and god speed.

GO UNION NOW!!

One last thing. All of you who read this. Please know that I am a TM and I wish I can go public. I am a god fearing christian and I would not lie. I believe in your cause and feel that I am on the wrong side of this fight. I need a paycheck. You also need a bigger paycheck. I dont carry a toolbag anymore but please know where my heart is. I have been asked to go to NY but let it be known my head and heart wont be in it! Those who know me, will know wrote this. I will deny it. I hope my guys go union. Thet deserve it. They are a great bunch of guys. All of you are a great bunch of guys. You deserve better

So top down things appear to be slowly getting worse. Bitterness ensues. Now NCR wants to do the following

1. Ensure WCS headcount is at or below our target numbers
What is interpreted: This is a polite way to say “We are going to be firing people so start looking for a new job”.

2. Carefully manage overtime cost
What is interpreted: Now that many of the employees are already under paid (under NCR’s base pay due to being moved from First Level Technology), we want to make sure our employees don’t make any extra money. Oh, but you have to still make your quota of calls per day (don’t create any fake ones), and do all the training we require (due to us getting more money from new clients)… in normal hours.
Talk about overworking employees.

3. Reduce and/or avoiding outside spend
What is interpreted: Don’t try buying anything, like tools, that you really need. We need to ensure our stock price keeps going up.

4. Effective management of our service parts inventory/usage
What is interpreted: Do you really think you need that part to fix the call? Expect more fake calls to be created to lower parts per call usage.
I see why the union is making so much headway right now.

NCR IBEW union and Teamsters union information

NCR 2 Comments »

So this is an interesting way to bring attention to my blog.

NCR, the company I work for, is in a battle with the Teamsters in New York City.  The Teamsters want to renew their contract on July 1st but NCR is anticipating a strike and is preparing an Anti-Strike Squad to attempt to out wait the strike. They are planning to send their salaried employees in 30 day increments, RTSS’s and management, to NYC to run all the calls in the area on top of their current duties. Due to pay issues, working conditions (6 day work weeks), among other issues, NCR techs (Customer Engineers or CE’s) are attempting to fight back. See http://baheyeldin.com/technology/ncr-history/ncr-class-action-suit-pushing-a-union-and-now-toons.html

In other areas of the USA such as New England, NCR techs are attempting to form an IBEW union to resolve current issues they have with NCR.  Since I work for NCR I can’t share information about whether I’m going to join the NCR IBEW union or whether I’m against it. Although, I can say that the only successful unions I can think of are the ones where the industry is funded by the government. What’s interesting though, is that NCR is willing to spend time and money to fight the formation of the IBEW union and the current Teamsters union instead of talking to the CE’s and resolving the issues the CE’s have regarding pay and conditions. That seems pretty idiotic from a management point of view. A lack of communication is what caused this issue and NCR is willing to pay money to continue the problem.  The organizational culture at this company amazes me.

I’m expecting that the company NCR has already hired to fight the IBEW union formation will probably find this page and try to post something regarding why people shouldn’t be in a IBEW union. It would be an interesting read.

10 signs you know you are in the ghetto in Chicago

Uncategorized No Comments »

Since I drive around Chicago all day long for my job, I have to be aware of my surroundings. I’ve created a list of 10 things to look for around you that will ensure you are in, or close to, the ghetto.

10. Fish and Chicken fast food places like Sharks, Captain Hook, J J Fish, or any other fish and chicken fast food place

9. Vendors standing in the middle of the roadway trying to sell bath towels (seen this on Garfield, Roosevelt and a couple other right off the highway)

8. A bum at each stoplight begging for change (where Cicero and Rt55 meet  is a hot spot for this)

7. You can’t read 90% of the signs because they are in Spanish (California and 25th)

6. Payday loans or title loan businesses

5. A liquor store across the street from an ATM/Bank

4.  No brand name businesses, ie McDonalds, Wendys, Walmart, Starbucks

3.  The Blue Light cameras are a dead giveaway. I saw one on what looked like a dead end street

2. There are more liquor/grocery stores then there are grocery stores

and the number one way you know your in the Ghetto in Chicago is……

1. There are more “Cash your Check here” places then there are banks

So drive safe and take this list with you so you know the top 10 ways to know you’re in the ghetto in Chicago.

Happy New Year! A New Year, a new job

Uncategorized No Comments »

Why I haven’t written in awhile
Oct 1st I was hired onto First Level Technology (FLT) as a Customer Engineer.  My job would be to fix registers all over the southern Chicago area.  They’ve paid for training, supplied a company vehicle, gas card, and are paying my tolls.  Quite a nice job.  It’s kept me busy.  I’m not sure what I can and can’t say about the company, so I’ll lean toward saying and removing if requested  :)

From First Level Technology to NCR
On Jan 1st I was moved from FLT to NCR, which is a good thing. I enjoy my job and there are supposed to be more benefits associated with it.  It should be a good way to start the new year.

I’ve also got my A+ certification now and am going to work on my network+ as well.  I’ll be writing more as I go along in this job.  I’m going to start keeping a log of what I fixed and how I fixed it for personal reasons.  I’ll post some interesting unconfidential information on here when I get the chance.

Buffalo Wild Wings and DirecTv Satellite info

Uncategorized No Comments »

So I went to a Buffalo Wild Wings franchise (AKA BDubs) today and was quite disappointed with what I heard.  The waitress told me that the stores’ policy about purchasing alcohol is that everyone at the table has to be 21 in order for anyone to drink. Unfortunately, one of the 4 of us was not 21 so they wouldn’t let us order beer. That got me thinking that the franchise is discriminating against college age kids.  So I talked to the general manager for an explanation and he had mentioned that they had been sued for that same issue but got off the hook because they have the “right to refuse service to anyone” as it says in every restaurant. I kindly explained that the 1 person at our table isn’t interested in drinking and he gave us permission to order a beer.  That was a pain.  I understand the reason behind it as BDubs attracts a lot of college age kids.  The rule is just annoying.  On to other news. While we were eating there was a big storm coming through and it knocked out the satellite connection and showed the receiver number and the card number to the DirecTV satellite dish at BDubs.  I don’t know if anyone can use this information, for learning purposes of course, but the receiver numbers and card numbers are below. R: 0231 7601 7772

Pwned by T-Mobile: AIM = Text messenging? WTF?

Uncategorized 3 Comments »

Last month I signed up for a T-Mobile account with 1000 anytime minutes, nights and weekends and an unlimited internet plan for my blackberry (which I bought from them). Thinking “internet” included AOL Instant Messenger, I gleefully IM’ed friends in my free time at work. Unfortunately, I got my bill today and was charged $85 for “text messenging”. Since when was AIM considered “text messenging”? WTF? I just got PWNED by T-Mobile.

I called their customer support and explained that I was new and didn’t have access to my online account.  T-Mobile was having technical difficulties, so said their customers support via email, so my password didn’t get sent.  It took about 2 weeks for me to get the password.  The lady on the phone said that I should’ve called to get more information about my bill.  Yeah right, so I can wait on hold for 20 minutes.  I don’t think so.  I even used their #552# to get information about my bill but it said $0.00 so I figured I was safe.  WTF.  I finally threatened to cancel and pay the $200 fee on top of the $200 bill and they put me on hold. They do it so you can hang up if you want to.  After about 5 minutes the lady came back and said that she could take 80 text messenges off of the bill and suggested I go into the store that signed me up and argue with them some more.  So we’ll see how that goes.

I had a bad feeling when I went to signup for T-mobile in the first place. They wanted to charge me extra for T-mobile to T-mobile, text messenging, and even nights and weekends. On top of that I got charged a $35 activation fee and it was $59.95 instead of $39.95. I signed up for T-Mobile anyway because my entire family has it, but I still felt pwned by T-Mobile. Ouch that hurts. WTF. T-Mobile is starting to suck.
